Devil's Den Spring

Happy Fall!

For many states around the nation, many people are looking for news coats and might already be dressing in sweaters. Here in Florida, it's still hot as heck! The temperatures are still hitting in the 90s, and if you're looking to cool down, I got the spot for you.

Devil's Den Spring is natures natural wonder that has been transformed from a simple scuba diving site to a world-class tourist attraction. This underground spring inside a dry cave has been home to many extinct animal fossils dating back to the Pleistocene Age.

Not only can you swim here with your friends, but you can snorkel and scuba dive! They offer scuba diving seven days a week with a proper certification level of Open Water or above.

Luckily for snorkelers, no certification is necessary. You can enjoy the day with your family and explore everything this natural wonder has to offer.

If you want to spend more than one day there, you can! They offer cabin rentals, and up to four people can sleep there. There is also an R.V Park with 32 sites, and you can they have a tent/camping ground! They have electric/water hook-ups. There are port-a-potties on site in addition to two bathroom/shower facilities.

My favorite part, other than swimming in the den, is getting food from Triple J's Grill. They sell burgers, wraps, hot dogs, Philly cheesesteaks and they even have vegetarian options. My favorite is the hot dogs; they are so good.

Some things you need to know before going to Devil's Den:

  • Scuba Divers: Open Water Certification or Above is required, you must have a dive buddy, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Your parent must accompany anyone under the age of 18
  • I definitely recommend everyone to go here at least once or any spring in the Gainesville area. They are inexpensive, and you'll have a fun-filled day. The water is sure to cool you down.

You can contact Devil's Den at (352) 528-3344. The spring is open to visitors from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday and Sunday and 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
